The Finnish government introduced the Finland D Visa in June 2023 to address labor shortages. In this post, I’ll guide you through the Finland D work visa process for 2023.
Why the Finland D Visa launched
The Finland D Work visa aims to address labor shortages in Finland by welcoming foreign nationals to fill gaps in the Finnish job market.
Basic Requirements for the Finland D Visa
To apply for the Finland D work visa, you’ll need the following:
- Job offer from a Finland-certified employer.
- An international passport.
- Educational documents.

Finland Certified Employers for Jobs
Obtaining a job offer from a certified employer can be challenging. The Finnish immigration service has provided a list of 42 certified employers/companies, which you can find [here]
After securing a job offer, you’ll need to apply for a residence permit, which your employer will assist with. Note that the residence permit is different from the visa and will be delivered to you in Finland. You can schedule your residence permit appointment [here]

The Finland D visa is valid for 2 years, with the possibility of renewal. After four years in Finland, you can apply for Permanent Residency and Finnish citizenship, making it a pathway to permanent residency.
