Canada Global Talent Stream

The Global Talent Stream, launched in June 2017, is a collaboration between Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). It assists Canadian employers in hiring highly skilled international talent, enhancing their competitiveness on a global scale. Successful employers in the program can expedite the process for hiring foreign nationals through the Global Skills Strategy.

Program requirements

The GTS has two categories: Category A and Category B, each with unique requirements. Both categories share some common prerequisites.

Category A: To apply for Category A, an employer must be referred to the stream by one of the GTS’s designated partners and hire unique and specialized talent. The designated partners are authorized to refer employers to Category A. Unique and specialized talent for this category have advanced knowledge of the industry, advanced education, and at least 5 years of specialized experience. They typically earn a minimum annual salary of at least $80,000 CAD.

Category B: Employers applying for Category B aim to hire highly skilled foreign talent to fill positions listed in the Global Talent Occupations List.

Application Process

Eligible GTS candidates must obtain a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), which is the employer’s responsibility to apply for and pay for the process. This can be done by the employer or a third-party representative.

Once the positive LMIA is received, the employee can apply for a Canadian work permit.

The required documents depend on your unique profile, and it may be beneficial to hire a reputable Canadian immigration attorney to simplify the application process.
